Week 1 Basics of Financial Statements (Balance Sheets & Income Statements) – A thorough breakdown of how to maintain a balance sheet, and write an income statement (also known as a Profit & Loss Statement).Learn about different types of assets and liabilities, and how these items affect the health of your company. Explore the effects of profits and losses. Case studies are used to make concepts accessible.

Week 2 Understanding Financial Ratios and Analyzing Financial Trends – Learn how to use aspects of your financial statements as warning signs to assess the health of your business. Financial Ratios represent numbers taken from the Income Statement and Balance Sheet that are used to show the behavior of numbers in relation to one another. Learning how to calculate and understand ratios allows you to spot potential problems before they destroy your business. Trend Analysis tells us the direction and severity of the problem.

Week 3 Virtual open office hours session/ Q&A session.

Week 4 Using Financial Tools to Make Business Decisions – Understand the difference between Variable Costs and Fixed Costs to learn how to calculate the sales required for your business to break even. From there, you will learn how to analyze your costs to plan for profits. Put this all together to understand the Magic Formula for setting prices, bidding on jobs, and more.You will work through real-life examples to apply these concepts.

Week 5 Forecasting & Budgeting to Improve Profits – Learn how to use historical trends from your business to make informed predictions about the future. Analyze trends to predict your costs and revenue and budget strategically to plan for profits.
